Solution of Problems in Fluid Mechanics
In fluid mechanics the change to SI units presents no fundamental difficulty since the algebraic solutions to the various problems apply without alteration to all coherent systems of units based on Newton's second law. It is therefore only necessary to become familiar with the units adopted in the SI system and then to proceed as before. For practical purposes multiples and sub-multiples of the basic units may prove more popular or convenient than the basic units themselves; pressures, for example, may be stated in bars or millibars or kilonewtons per square metre according to preference, but provided that such values are expressed in terms of the standard SI units before substitution in algebraic formulae, no difficulty will arise.
